Rules & Regulations for Poultry

  • 1. The completed Fair Entry Form plus fees and copies of the Pullorum-Typhoid Certificate for each bird entered must be presented to the Superintendent in writing on or before August 15, 2008. Pullorum-Typhoid testing is not required in pigeons and waterfowl. All Poultry & Waterfowl must be tested for avian influenza. Failure to follow these specifications will result in the rejections of your entry(ies). Make checks payable to: Prince George's County Fair Association. Due to the fact that waterfowl may be housed in a community pen, we strongly suggest that you place your own personal identification leg band on your entries in addition to the required blood-testing band if applicable. This will help reduce mistaken identity of your birds. All Poultry & Waterfowl must be tested for avian influenza.

  • 2. Coop-in day: Wednesday, September 3, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. All entries must be accompanied by the original Pullorum-Typhoid Certificate with the exception of pigeons and waterfowl. This is mandatory for the Superintendent or Assistant's verification of authenticity, before your birds can be cooped. Avian influenza test for all poultry & waterfowl required on health papers.

Coop-out day: Sunday, September 7, 2008 between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Early release may be deemed necessary, depending on the crowd and extreme weather conditions. Any unclaimed entries after designated coop-out time (9:00 p.m.) may become the property of the Prince George's County Fair Association.

  • 3. All birds will be fed and watered by the Poultry Department twice a day and bedding changed as necessary.

  • 4. All birds entered in the Fair will be subject to a daily inspection by a representative of the Maryland Livestock Sanitary Service. Any bird showing symptoms of any disease will be disqualified and must be removed from the exhibition area for the duration of the Fair, and isolated or disposed of at the request of the state veterinarian.

  • 5. All specimens will be shown at the sole risk of the exhibitor. The Prince George's County Fair Association will not be responsible for accidents, mistakes, loss or damage arising from any cause whatsoever. However, every precaution will be taken, and 24-hour security will be provided.

  • 6. No advertising or inscriptions will be allowed on coops until judging has been completed.

  • 7. No clipped wings allowed.

  • 8. Regulations mandate the status of the Pullorum-Typhoid Test in addition to the name, address, phone, type, sex, thirty days prior to coop-in date. This necessitates our need for a copy of the blood test upon completion of your entry.

  • Please note: A cock is a male over 6 months; a cockerel is under 6 months. A hen is a female over 6 months, a pullet is under 6 months.

  • Blood testing will not be provided on the premises.
    1. All entries must be received in writing by the Superintendent on or before August 15, 2008.
All birds must be tested and banded for Pullorum-Typhoid, unless the bird(s) is under 4 months of age and from a Pullorum-free stock (with documentation of a NPIP Form 15).

  • A copy of this certificate must be provided for each bird to complete entry.
    1. All entries must include the exhibitor's name, address and phone in addition to the entry's type and sex. Failure to comply may result in the rejection of your entry.

  • It is not mandatory to test pigeons and waterfowl. Pheasants must be tested and turkeys must be tested by the tube method. If you need to have your birds tested, you may contact Mr. Paul Gilroy (301) 246-4401.
